Igamun
Hot Lands of Kalor
Small as a mouse, Igamuns are found in the fiery region of central Kalor. An area only accessible with heat-resistant safety suits. Unlike on earth, many plant and animal species are about to flourish in this environment. Plants grow out of cracks in lava rock and the animal's feet are evolved to withstand the scorching rocks. An unusual material similar to what we call obsidian on Earth crusts the area and emits a light humming and vibration. I’m no geologist so I took some samplings to show to a friend of mine who may be able to get more information.
Igamun is so light and small that its movements can be compared to a grasshopper, with its springy legs and quick wit. The Iguman have been spotted sitting atop rocks or alongside brush with their jaw completely split and open creating a bowl for catching condensation and small insects and debris to consume. Upon further examination, the large jaws of this creature contain a syrupy substance like honey that is secreted to attract insects and catch any blowing debris. Its long and dark tongue resembles that of a common flower in the area that also attracts similar insects. Once trapped in the sticky saliva Igamun snaps its jaws like a mouse trap and traps its prey in a cage of teeth as would a venus fly trap (See the UFPM encyclopedia of lost species for more information.)
Further, the Igamun have small hoof-like back feet that protect them from the heated rocks. When traveling over these volcanic rocks Igamun never lingers too long to avoid getting burnt. I even glimpsed one Igamun that seemed to jump on the lava itself with its speed! The creature's thick cylindrical tail helps propel it forward, and balance while jumping and is used as a cooling agent when its body heat gets too hot.
